The exterior decorated with medallions and three large panels against a maple-leaf ground, one panel with a view of a torii gate from the ocean, another with houses in front of Mount Fuji, and the last with birds and flowers; the box interior lacquered and marked with the nine-character dragonfly trademark 'Nippon koku Kyoto ju Komai sei'
