A Suit of Samurai Armour (Tosei Gusoku), Edo Period (1615-1868)

Kabuto (helmet): Zunari (head-shaped), Hineno shikoro (close-fitting plated neck guard), brown lacquer, mid Edo period, circa 1750
Menpo (facial armour): Hanpo style, thick lacquered iron, mid Edo period, circa 1750
Maedate (frontal decoration): ring (Maru) design in brass
Dou (breastplate/cuirass): Sendai style, matching the helmet in weight and construction with heavy iron
Sode (shoulder armour): medium lacquer iron plates, mid Edo period
Kusazuri (fauld/skirt): plates, mid Edo period, circa 1750
Kote (sleeves): Shino style, lacquered
Haidate (thigh armour): silk and hemp base, small lacquered iron plates, late Edo period
Gusoku bitsu (armour box): late Edo lacquer and wood armour box, Ken Katabami Mon (sword and plum flower and kanji crest) of the Sakai clan

CONDITION DETAILS

overall in substantially good condition; wear consistent with age, including lacquer crackling and losses to the helmet and neck guard, worn fabric and corrosion to chainmail on the sleeves and thigh armour, and a few missing laces on the fauld/skirt
