The first two titles: two oils on canvas; each signed verso, The Shrine; signed and dated 1868 on the rock lower left, signed, titled and dated July 1868 at Brittany, France verso. One pencil drawing on paper; signed and dated 1868 lower left; and one watercolour; signed, titled and dated 1882 lower right. Together with a sketchbook; the front free end paper inscribed; “Robert Gifford xmas 1889” containing some 176 pencil and pen and ink drawings and cartoons with captions, family portraits including Freddy Gifford; Robert Gifford and another family portrait of Robert and Fred at Exmouth dated June 16, 1837; watercolours including identified European and British landscapes, animal genres, sporting and equestrian views and illustrated family letters, many signed by Gifford and variously dated from the 1830’s to the 1880’s as well as some 56 miscellaneous works on paper unsigned.
