Provenance:

Private Collection, Toronto

Note:

We know Franklin Carmichael as a master in both oils and watercolour, but he also produced many works in multiple using woodcut and linocut techniques. In 1925, 1926 and 1928 Carmichael made the trip to the north shore of Lake Superior where he sketched in watercolour. While this linocut is untitled, it is undoubtedly a result of one of those sketches as it shows the famous time-worn granite mounds of islands in that part of our country - a favourite subject for many members of the Group of Seven.
