Note:

From 1933 to 1936 Goodridge Roberts (1904-1974) was resident artist at Queen’s University. By 1938, the year this work was painted, Roberts had returned to Montreal and was part of a society of artists who organized themselves into an exhibiting group. Among them were John Lyman, Jori Smith, Jack Humphrey and Alexander Bercovitch. Phillip Surrey (see Lot 21) would also eventually join them.
