Provenance:

Galerie Walter Klinkhoff Inc., Montreal
Galerie Valentin, Montreal
Private Collection, Montreal

Literature:

Guy Robert, Lemieux, Gage Publishing, Toronto, 1975, pages 198, 202, and page 52 for this work (titled Un âge va, un âge vient, 1972) reproduced in colour, as well as page 201, reproduced.

Note:

Guy Robert writes of Lemieux' fondness for old photo albums which he describes as "The perfect meeting ground for childhood and the past."  "From these," writes Robert, "and through alchemy of brush and imagination, (Lemieux) draws the family portraits."

Robert notes that "a number of the family portraits touch on the theme of the life cycle". This theme is perfectly captured by this lot which Lemieux has titled Un âge va, un âge vient - One generation comes, another goes."
