Provenance:

Private Collection, Toronto

Note:

Sydney Watson (1911-1981) studied at Central Tech and at the Ontario College of Art (OCA), ultimately becoming its President in 1955. Under his administration, OCA became the number one art school in the country.

This lot, completed during Watson’s final year as president of the college, explores the perception of depth and space through its colourful arrangement of geometric felt shapes, demonstrating the popularity and ubiquity of minimalism by the 1970s.
