Note:

It was 1890, the year this painting was executed, that George Reid was elected a full academician of the Royal Canadian Academy. That summer Reid and his wife rented an old mill as a studio in Lambton Mills. According to Miner, in front of the old mill ran the Humber River, which may have been the inspiration for this painting.
