Note:
“I never liked using every colour of the rainbow. Before I start… I have a definite colour scheme in mind.”
Painted in the year of the country’s centennial, Grenville, Que., 1967 is an energetic and vibrant homage to the Canadian landscape. Leaves of ochre and yellow cling to the branches of trees, and a golden glow overtakes the hills. An autumn gust greys the sky, blows the clouds and chills the air. The summit which features prominently in the scene – rendered in charcoal and blues – seems an ominous reminder from Casson that the splendor is but a precursor to winter.
