Note:

In a letter dated September 10, 1999, Conrad Graham, then Curator at the McCord Museum in Montreal, was of the opinion that this lot was a preliminary painting by William Raphael ((1833-1914) for another version of the same subject Habitants Attacked by Wolves, in the permanent collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

A copy of the letter can be made available to the purchaser of this lot.
