JAMIE EVRARD (1949 - )

"In my last incarnation I became a more painterly type of artist with a strange fascination for aerial silks. What most intrigues me as subject matter for my paintings are the most ordinary things. I paint in order to see what it is I am looking at. Making art is a way of taking possession; a way of finding out how things really are--or perhaps of making them as I would like them to be."

- Jamie Evrard -

Jamie Evrard is well known for the richness of her monotypes, her bold and exuberant oils on canvas, her delicate watercolours and her fine works on copper.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1949, Jamie Evrard received a Bachelor of Arts Magna cum Laude from Brown University, Rhode Island, in 1971 and a Masters of Art and Masters in Fine Art with a concentration in Printmaking from the University of Iowa in 1974 and 1976, respectively. She moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1978 and pursued her painting and monotype printmaking. She has also taught printmaking and painting at the University of British Columbia and the Emily Carr Institute of Art, and lectured on anthropology at Simon Fraser University.
Evrard is the recipient of many awards, including the Andrews Scholar, Brown University, the Ford Foundation Scholarship for Graduate Studies in Art, University of Iowa and an Explorations grant from the Canada Council. She has exhibited her paintings and prints throughout British Columbia, as well as in Seattle, Washington, and her work included in the Canada Council Art Bank, and the Art Gallery of Hamilton, to name but a few. Everard lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.
