FRANKLYN HEISLER (1949 - )
Franklyn Heisler was born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia in 1949, and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Art and Art Education in 1971 from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. He went on to receive his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Regina in 1978. Heisler became a well respected ceramic artists at the forefront of contemporary ceramic art in Canada in the 1970s and 80s. He also developed a keen interest in the history of ceramics, which allowed him to lecture on the subject at many Canadian universities. Due to health issues, Heisler was forced to stop working in ceramics, but continued his career as a curator and museum educator. Heisler has been working with Open Minds for the last 10 years; he has been instrumental in the development, and implementation of the Visible Thinking Initiative at CIS, Canadian International School in Singapore.
