James Lahey is a multidisciplinary artist whose diverse aesthetic reflects his craftsmanship and his deep understanding of the art world. Before dedicating himself exclusively to creating art, Lahey worked in the curatorial sphere, notably at the Power Plant, the Art Gallery of Harbourfront, Bruce Mau Design and the Art Gallery of Ontario, in Toronto. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery and a member of the Acquisitions Committee for the Prints and Drawings Department at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Known for his photorealistic paintings, colourful abstractions, surreal landscapes, seascapes, cloudscapes and vast public projects, Lahey always captures the essence of the moment. His aesthetic is often described as serene, powerful and enigmatic.
James Lahey lives and works in Toronto. He holds a B.F.A. from York University and was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy in 2001. His artwork is included in numerous public and private collections, such as the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Government of Canada External Affairs, Tom Thompson Memorial Art Gallery, Citybank collection, Beaverbrook Art Gallery, AGS Art Services, Edmonton Art Gallery, Spar Aerospace and the Toronto Sun.
