Collection of Mme. Sophie DeGay, Cannes
By descent to the present owner

Note:

Originally designed by Henry Stacy Marks (1829-1898) for Birket Foster’s summer house and for the Duke of Westminster’s Eaton Hall, designs for ‘The Seven Ages of Man’ were based upon the reflections of the character Jaques in Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’ ,(Act II, Scene VII):
“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages....”
