Lichtenstein’s image of a saxophone was created as an advertisement for this jazz festival held on Feb. 26, 1967.

Commencing in 1963, Richard Gibson held jazz parties in Aspen. A New Yorker who had moved west, Gibson tried to bring popular music of New York to the Rocky Mountains. The jam session parties continued to be held until 1969.
