Provenance:
Andrea Rosen Gallery in New York City;
From whom acquired by the present Private Collection, Toronto
Note:
From Felix Gonzalez-Torres's 1990 exhibition held at Andrea Rosen Gallery in New York City. For "Somewhere Better Than This Place", the artist created two stacks of white pieces of paper. The artist directed that the stacks be endlessly replenished, as viewers were encouraged to take sheets of the paper home with them. On the centre of the sheets in one pile was printed: “Somewhere Better Than This Place.” There was also a twin stack for another that read: “Nowhere Better Than This Place.” Andrea Rosen was a close friend of the artist and the executor of Felix Gonzales-Torres estate.
