Provenance:

With Beaux Arts Internationale, Toronto

Note:

As a graphic artist, Miro experimented ceaselessly with numerous printing techniques, exploiting the qualities of each.

The soft lines of the etching technique create a supple and tonal composition as one sees In Personatge I Estels III. The atmospheric effect of the aquatint technique is perfectly suited to create the enormous neutral ground; within this atmosphere, crisply etched stars flutter about the enormous print.

Lithography, with its bold, brushed on borders allowed for more intense exploration of composition of shapes and figures and their surrounding (or lack thereof). Miro experimented with a multitude of printings, brilliant hues opposing bold blacks and variously coloured grounds and forms, as one also sees in Lots 5 & 57 in this sale.
