TAYLOR VINTAGE PORT 1948

Douro, Portugal.
u. hs.

For the third time in one evening, a wine that I scored 100 points was poured blind and this time – perfection! This is the greatest bottle of ’48 Taylors that I have ever encountered. It has a bouquet that you want to wrap up, take home and mount on your mantelpiece. Indescribably pure scents of raspberry, leather, truffle, granite and minerals. You could pick each scent from the air. The palate is sheer perfection – you cannot envisage how a mature port could be any better. It is blessed with brilliant delineation, sensational power that is totally controlled and startling precision and tension on the finish. Heavenly. Drink now-2040. Tasted May 2012.
