Note:

Born in Whitby, Ontario, McMillan became professional soldier and saw active service at Niagara in 1864, and helped repel a Fenian Raid in 1866. In 1870 her served in Col. Wolsley’s expedition which ended in the Red River Rebellion. Eventually McMillan was promoted to Major in the 95th Battalion and then a command post. Sir Wilfrid Laurier appointed McMillan Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba in 1900.
