The present painting is a copy after a lost original by Sir Peter Paul Rubens; a fragment of which remains in the Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College, Ohio. Francois Boucher painted another copy of the original composition which is now held in the collection of the National Museum, Stockholm. Hendrik van Balen the Elder and others in the Circle of/Studio of Rubens also painted this scene.
