Provenance:

With Gabriel Van Thienen, Bruxelles

Note:

In the 1660’s, Aert de Gelder was one of Rembrandt's last pupils. The influence of Rembrandt's late painting style is recognizable in his work, but often with a lighter colour palette. He primarily painted Biblical subjects and portraits. Because of their Rembrandt-like character, many of de Gelder's paintings were, in the past, attributed to Rembrandt.
