A faded partial handwritten label to the top stretcher inscribed indistinctly: “Mr. Bolton?... practice as a Solicitor at Newmarket? ... and was brother-in law to James Robinson the Jockey” verso.
James Robinson (1794-1873) was a British Jockey. In his riding career, which lasted until 1852, he rode the winners of 24 British Classic Races.
