Note:

This giant walrus exudes a sense of movement and playfulness. It was carved from a massive piece of flattering green stone (likely serpentinite) typical of that region.

Susan Gustavison’s, Northern Rock, Contemporary Inuit Stone Sculpture, McMichael Canadian Art Collection, 1999, pg. 53, details the sometimes harrowing events that can take place during quarrying expeditions: “That year, an overhang collapsed burying Nuna Parr up to his chest in sand and stones for a number of hours until he could be freed.”
