Note:
“The print ‘Calendar’, by Toongooktook and Ikseegah (the printmaker), is a visual expression of the passage of time. The syllabic writing around the head tells us that the rabbits are like passing days, some rabbits smiling because there are some days of good and favourable weather, some rabbits not smiling because the weather sometimes turn stormy and cruel. The head in the centre restates the theme. In one position the face smiles. Turned the other way the face frowns, as good and bad times alternate with the passing days.”
