Note:

Winnipeg-born Kuczer picked up both the paintbrush and the violin at the age of seven. As a teenager, he received scholarships to the Art Institute of Chicago as well as the Royal Academy of Music. Kuczer chose music, but continued to paint (mainly landscapes and portraits) during his 20 years in the U.K. His painting career didn't truly begin until his return to Canada and his discovery of abstraction in 1949. Kuczer's paintings from the 1950s to the mid-60s were indebted to Cubism but, in this untitled work, a growing interest in harder-edge abstraction is felt in the broader expanses of colour and less representational composition.
