Yousuf Karsh, Karsh Portraits, Toronto, 1976, page 46, illustrated.
According to Karsh, he approached Sir Winston Churchill in 1941 and was accorded a mere two minutes to accomplish this striking portrait of the great statesman.
The image of Churchill brought Karsh international prominence and is said to be the most reproduced portrait in history. In 1967, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. In 1975, Karsh was awarded the Medal of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
