Lot Report

Note:

A label on the reverse of this artwork explains, “The scene depicts the various activities of young people in the village.

A group of boys play the spear and hoop game while others practice with bow and arrow. Older warriors instruct the youngsters. Boys in the background endure the ‘hot coal’ test, while others play rough boy games.

Girls are seen preparing the corn meal, as they use mortar and pestle, grinding, sifting and rolling of the dough. Other girls are taking care of the babies, making the fire, cleaning the area, puncturing ear-lobes, tattooing the skin, and dressing the hair of a youth who is whittling arrows.

Children play with the many dogs living in the village.”
