Provenance:

Private Collection, Nova Scotia

Note:

The Test (in Hampshire) is a famous trout stream. Francis Seymour Haden first began etching his "direct landscape plates" in 1859, the date of this early print. This is one of several plates drawn directly from nature on a day trip from London. This scene shows the River Test, flowing near the market town of Romsey, in Hampshire. Haden made two etchings of this subject on the same day, one at noon - the other in the very late evening.
