Note:

Born in Northampton, England to a family of artists, Woolnough studied at London’s Chelsea School of Arts from 1952 to 1955. She immigrated to Canada in 1957 with her husband and children, settling in Hamilton, Ontario. From 1965-67, she studied at San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, focusing on etching and founded an etching and lithography program at the Jamaica School of Art. She settled in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in the 1970’s. The Confederation Centre Art Gallery, collected and exhibited her work beginning in 1964. One of the first purchases in its history was her linocut Butterfly No.3 from this early part of her career when she focused on printmaking.

Although Woolnough worked in many mediums, including painting, textile design and sculpture, her practice was fundamentally based on her skilled and dynamic drawing and her innovative exploration of the materials and techniques of printmaking.
