Note:

The date inscribed on the back of the portrait is April 4th 1885 was less than a week before the company’s departure for service in the North West Rebellion with the QOR. Some of the information about the events that occurred there are taken from Cassell’s own diary including accepting the surrender of Chief Poundmaker on May 26th. He was also a founding member of the 48th Highlanders and notable enough that he is one of the few QOR members that has his own page on the museum website
