Note:

The artist was born in Litchfield, Herkimer County, NY on September 18, 1837. Later he moved to Frankfort, a suburb of Utica. He started painting at the age of 12 before traveling to New York to study art. He opened an art studio in the Paddock Arcade where he taught music and art. Lowell painted landscapes in the academic fashion from nature with smooth effects of light.

The Professor was a resident of Watertown, NY for 56 years, where he died June 12, 1914.
