Private Collection, Toronto

Note:

The Nascopie was the first westbound ship to complete the northwest passage. It traveled from Halifax through the Hudson Strait and went aground off Cape Dorest in 1947.

By 1939, the Nascopie had carried many passengers, including Frederick Varley of the Group of Seven. After the annual voyage of 1941 to the Arctic, passengers were no longer permitted, as it was feared tourism was affecting the health of the Inuit.
