Andesine is another member of the feldspar family of minerals and is closely related to labradorite. Gem andesine comes in shades of red, and in a colour-changing variety that appears as a different colour in different types of light. Gem andesine is at the center of a controversy and several lawsuits as various groups try to get to the truth of its origin. At first, the stones were purported to come from mines in the Congo and Tibet and to be of natural colour. Now groups have come forward with evidence the colour is added in Thailand by a diffusion process. At present, it is generally considered an enhanced (treated) stone
